New Jersey Clean Communities Council Unveils QR Code to Encourage Donations of Reusable Bags
The NJCCC has unveiled the Reusable Bag Resource Center, a new tool that allow shoppers who have accumulated excess bags to find convenient locations to donate their bags to local food banks and neighbors in need.
The effort is a collaboration with local and county clean communities and recycling coordinators, the Community Food Bank of NJ, Goatote, Recycle Coach, the Girl Scouts in Mercer County and the New Jersey Food Council. Together, they are supporting collection sites for reusable bags to be sanitized and recirculated to food banks, food pantries and social services programs.
This pilot program is now in six different counties across New Jersey with a statewide roll-out planned.
“We are very excited to announce that we are launching a new tool for shoppers to donate their reusable bags to food banks in NJ with a QR code and digital button that will lead consumers to a `Reusable Bag Resource Center’ with information about how they can donate reusable bags in their local communities,” said NJCCC Chair Linda Doherty.
She noted the QR code can be used on printed receipts, circulars, signage and on the bags. A digital button can also be used for online orders and email communications.
“Our goal is to create consumer awareness of the benefits of the law and how shoppers can donate reusable bags instead of accumulating the bags at home or throwing them in the trash,” Doherty said.
The Resource Center will also enable local governments or non-profit organizations who are hosting a reusable bag collection event to easily post their event, whether it is a one day or year-round program.
